This position requires drawing and storing blood and other specimens for medical purposes. The test must be ordered by the licensed health care provider, a physician in most cases. The specimens are placed in tubes and labeled with the name and date of birth of the patient, plus the time the specimen was collected.

Following the certification that is given after the classes are completed successfully, the student can go on to take a National Certification Exam. This is an optional test, however the student who passes is more appealing to a human resources manager. It is further proof of his or her competence.

There will be competency checklists used throughout the course. The classes are held in a bright school building and the laboratory sessions are held in a modern, well-equipped laboratory. A Red Cross certified instructor will conduct the classroom and lab sessions.

You will learn the rules that ensure you collect and handle blood samples in a safe way.
