Eastern therapies are the most renowned movement based therapy. Their origin can be traced to South East Asia. They include yoga, qigong and tai chi. Initially, they were used for spiritual meditation and as a self defense mechanism but have gradually developed into physical therapies. Taoist monks are known for advancing certain breathing and body motion rehearses in order to enhance mental acuity. Today, they are mostly known for their ability to elongate life and improve health and immunity. They have even been incorporated into fitness programs.

Rolfing movement is a therapy that utilizes a rare combination of somatic touch and verbal communication to help develop consciousness of a persons vertical position and typical movement routines. It aims at increasing liveliness, flexibility, balance and harmony with gravity. They are also useful for those with brain injuries, the disabled and autistic children.

Authentic motion is based upon dance and complex psychology. Popularly known as AM, it has no gesture tutoring. All that is needed is the mover and a spectator. The doer waits and heeds to impulses directing him or her about what needs to be done. The impulses may be visible or invisible to the actor but he or she has to move with the impulsive movements that arise. Body motions could be in rejoinder to an emotion, thought, pain or any other feeling. The presence of a spectator is meant to give the doer an opportunity to speak with someone about the experience.

Anna Halprin and Gabrielle Roth treatments utilize vibrancy. Personal advancement, manifestation and awareness of others is emphasized. This form of treatment mostly incorporates exercises that increase muscle action, improve the health of joints and prevent injuries. The fact that the exercises are energetic helps relieve tension and stress. Blood supply around the body is also improved.

The Aston Patterning treatment is concerned with how our day to day activities can be carried out with little strain. It mostly focuses of helping people stay fit by warming up, doing aerobics and stretching. These activities help in the maintenance of muscle power and structure and also improves cardiac health.

Rosen treatment encompasses normal fun activities such as dancing to music in the background. It is mostly done to a group of participants. The body gets rejuvenated through actions that augment its stability. Blood circulation in the body is also improved when one engages himself or herself in this kind of therapy. Zumba, a renowned workout technique that incorporates dance is a form of Rosen therapy.

Ideokenesis is a therapy which stresses neuromuscular rejuvenation. It uses descriptions to condition the nervous system to rouse the right muscles for an intended body motion. If the nervous system gets a clear report of an intended motion, it will find a way to stimulate muscles to cause the motion. To augment equilibrium when standing for example, one needs to picture lines of movement wandering through their frames.
